Actress Rebecca Ferguson inadvertently started a witch hunt this week after speaking candidly about a former co-star who screamed at her and told her, “You call yourself an actor, this is what I have to work with?” causing her to cry and walk off set.

She continued to explain that since the co-star was first on the call sheet, ahead of her, nobody had her back, but she was able to advocate for herself and told them to leave the set. Producers informed her that she couldn’t make such demands, so the compromise was that she would act to the back of their head.
Fans of the Dune star were horrified by this story, and quickly rushed to try and figure out who it might be. Many assumed it must be a man, with names like The Rock and Jake Gyllenhaal being floated, but Ferguson is careful to never use gendered pronouns in the interview, so it truly could be anyone.

“Hate seeing this but love seeing her stand up to bullshit. Rebecca was my guardian angel sent from heaven on set. I love that woman. I’d like to find out who did this.” pic.twitter.com/YUykvnKIb3
Wanting to get ahead of any potential cancellation, The Rock posted a response, writing, “Hate seeing this but love seeing her stand up to bullshit. Rebecca was my guardian angel sent from heaven on set. I love that woman. I’d like to find out who did this.” The pair starred together in 2014’s Hercules.
wait the rebecca ferguson culprit has to be jake gyllenhaal he literally says the same insult in an interview promoting their film pic.twitter.com/qowRU688lt

nope they did press junkets and even pranks together, there's no way she would've been comfortable like that if she had mistreated herhttps://t.co/6L83YqSN9D

One tweeter thought they’d solved the case, finding an interview where Gyllenhaal said something similar to what Ferguson’s unnamed co-star did, but others were quick to point out that Gyllenhaal and Ferguson, who co-starred in 2017’s Life, did press junkets together to promote the film, going so far as to prank an interviewer, something you’re unlikely to do with someone you dislike.

Unfortunately for Ferguson’s many defenders, we will most likely never know who disrespected Lady Jessica so severely. Maybe this investigation requires a forensic examination of her filmography: Which scenes in which movie are edited in such a way to disguise the fact that she’s talking to the back of her co-star’s head?
Just an idea.
